Hi everyone, I'm a new member but I have something that needs to be said. It is time to bring our hobby out of the dark ages and into the light of modern technology. The very fact that we still submit our coins to human beings to be graded leaves the door wide open for problems. Consider this my fellow numismatic friends. We now possess the technology to have our coins graded by lasers that cannot only measure the luster of a coin but can measure its true dimensions. How deep is that cameo, how…

This is the list of world banknotes I have been on the particular lookout for. Mind you I am still unsure if I would engage in trading/buying just yet, depending on my financial situation. Higher priority countries will be listed first
This list is incomplete. Please let me know of whatever country you have, and I can tell you what banknotes I would like from there (after all, I collect virtually every country's banknotes, not just restricted to ones below)
(self reminder) Need to add: Bolivia…

This 1 oz. coin was purchased due to it's extremely low production. It's the lowest production on any of the 1 oz. coins, Proof or Unc. What I can't understand is when I go to different auctions to see what the coins are going for the Proof is selling for more even though it has the higher minta…

Why oh why when people talk of the Lincoln centennial coins don't they include the best one of all? For me that's the 1918 Illinois centennial coin with the very nice portrait of Lincoln. I think it's an even better looking bust than the new commemoratives.
I see, on tv and in ads, that when people are selling sets of coins celebrating the Lincolns they show the four new cent coins and the new dollar commemorative. They pass right on by the 1918 coin. In my opinion it would simply add polish to…

Now that I've taken most of the year off from buying any coins I wonder if I got in too far last year. I spent around 15K on early commemoratives. I tended to think that I could get all 144 coins with a grade of MS65 or better. Grant it it got me a hell of a start on my collection as I have many very nice looking coins. When I stop and think how much more I need to spend I'm starting to realize I don't think I can finish in my life time w/o getting an influx of cash from someone else. I'm disabl…

The US Mint Product News reports that the mint Polk dollar rolls are approaching previous sell-out figures for the last two dollar offerings of 30,000 for P and the same for D. Both sale figures are over 27,000. Questions:
1. Do you think the mint will raise production like they did for the LP2?
2. Have you order yours and how many?
The WH2 is selling for over $200 on ebay and that is infrequently. I ordered just one mint roll of JP each (P&D).

Hi, I'm always interested in looking at the photos of which people have taken the time to add to coinnetwork, but for some strange reason lots of these photos don't have any information about them, do these people then just assume that everyone knows what these coins are. If that was the case we wouldn't have much point in this network but only to show others that you've got the same coins or a better one. So please spend a bit more time and add some information and others might also become inte…

Destined to become one of the most influential men in world history, Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury on 12 February 1809. A £2 coin now marks the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and focuses on his theory that man descended from apes, featuring a portrait of Darwin in profile along with that of a chimpanzee. The edge inscription, meanwhile, recalls the publication of his theory with the words ON THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES 1859.

Hi All,
I am writing a book on "A Pictorial Guide of Late Roman Empire and Related Coinage, a Study in Late 4th, 5th and 6th Century Coinage." If you think the title is long, you should see what's inside. I'll give you and idea of what's in this book,
Identification - How to determine what you just cleaned up, found, or where give.
Grading - What grade is my coin? It's all green and funky looking.
A picture guide for late 4th to mid 5th, late 5th to early 6th, and up to the mid/late 6th cent…

Hello to all,
As a new member of this Coin Network, I find it a great way to get in touch with lots of folks with lots of knowledge.
Currently, I am the newletter editor of the Alexandria Coin Club operating out of Alexandria, VA. We have approximately 70 members of which, about 25 are more active and attend the monthly meetings. Our club is also attempting to expand its membership and would like to add more young numismatists to its ranks. Currently we have two YNs and want to keep them inter…
